Californians never voted to ban gas cars. Californians never voted to ban tires. Californians never voted for a new healthcare tax – to the contrary, they expressly forbade it.

That’s why we already overturned the gas car ban, we’ve formally asked HHS to disapprove the healthcare tax, and we’re exploring all avenues to stop the tire ban. We're fighting to protect the will of California voters from the schemes of Sacramento politicians.

A new study from PPIC shows why this is so important. Proposition 47, it concluded, increased homelessness in California by 10 percent. We of course reversed Prop. 47 with the passage of Prop. 36, defeating Newsom at every turn. The will of the people prevailed.

Newsom, meanwhile, was just caught by Politico inflating the number of new homes built in California 3 times over. At the same time, he’s pushing special legislation to create an exemption from environmental regulations for a specific project of one of his top campaign donors.

Newsom also just signed the bill that has been associated with Nick Shirley. I spoke with the Washington Post Editorial Board about the legislation. The result: an Editorial from the Post headlined “Sacramento would rather go after independent journalists than fraud.”

Elsewhere, I spoke with USA Today about stopping the outrageous practice of professional gambling on Little League games; I’m chairing a hearing next Tuesday on lowering child car costs; and I announced our Police Honor Role to recognize outstanding officers.

Meanwhile, Richard Pan’s statement about his deciding vote to raise the gas tax – “I do not regret my vote – has sparked widespread disbelief. You can watch the full exchange here. Because of Pan, the tax has more than doubled to 63.4 cents.

And now, we’ve accepted offers for live televised debates from 3 different stations – KCRA, ABC, and Fox. Pan hasn’t agreed to any of them.
