The signatures for the End Prop. 47 initiative are currently being counted and verified. We will know soon whether it’s qualified for November’s ballot. All signs are positive:

• A total of 546,000 valid signatures are needed, and 910,000 signatures were submitted. That means 60 percent of them need to be valid.

• For the signatures counted so far, the Secretary of State reports an 81.4% validity rate. The initiative is easily on track to qualify.

• In fact, the counting is going so well that the threshold for qualification could be met in just a few weeks. I will let you know as soon as it’s official.

As a member of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Crime, I’ve been participating in field hearings in America’s highest crime cities. You can see my questioning last week, where I highlighted the absurdity of stores having to lock down shampoo and body wash.

In other good news, the consensus is the Supreme Court case on homelessness will result in what my Amicus Brief asks for: enabling California communities to prohibit tent encampments at parks, sidewalks, and other public spaces. This will be a turning point for our state.

I also just introduced a Resolution calling on universities to end illegal encampments that have created disorder on their campuses. You can watch as I present the Resolution on the House Floor.

And in response to the secret Chinese bio lab found near Fresno, I am sponsoring the Prevent Illegal Laboratories Act. This legislation will track who’s buying dangerous pathogens so we can uncover any other such labs.

Finally, California is raising the gas tax to 60 cents per gallon. I took to the House Floor to call on Newsom and the Legislature to stop this tax increase – or better yet, suspend it altogether.
