Newsom is now calling for Californians to buy gas anywhere but Chevron. What would be much more helpful is if we could buy gas anywhere but California. With prices now $6.11 per gallon, our plan to suspend the gas tax is even being embraced by Democrat candidates for Governor.
In a similar vein, KCRA is reporting that “almost all of the top candidates for governor” say they want to “scrap” Newsom’s gas-car ban. I’ve got good news for them: we already scrapped it. My Resolution overturning it passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support.
We also, of course, cut off Newsom’s high-speed rail funding. Now we’re going to get answers as to how the state could spend $17 billion over 17 years without laying any track. In a nearly unanimous vote, we just authorized a full investigation and comprehensive report to Congress.
Our coalition for common sense, in short, is ascendent. And it’s no wonder why. As I discussed on Morning Joe, Californians pay the most for gas, electricity, housing, water, and groceries. Our movement is about fighting the failed policies that led to this – and restoring sanity to our state.
Yet our state’s leaders continue to invent new ways to harm Californians. For instance, last year I co-sponsored the most significant school choice legislation in congressional history – which was signed into law. Yet Newsom is now actively stopping California students from benefitting.
As K-12 Education Chair, I'm calling on Newsom to opt California into this new Federal Tax Credit Scholarship program, which allows taxpayers to claim up to a $1,700 credit to support scholarships that can be used by students in any kind of school. Even New York just opted in.
Finally, on CNN and Fox, I called out Hakeem Jeffries for saying he’d escalate redistricting with “maximum warfare all the time” – having previously supported my idea to ban gerrymandering. As much as common sense is needed in California, there’s a shortage in DC as well.
