Gavin Newsom has announced he will not run for President – if, that is, Kamala decides to run. Yet many are questioning the sincerity of this “deference.” It seems increasingly likely that one, the other, or both will be among a ballooning field of candidates.
Newsom also found time to attack me on X this week – twice, with two separate memes. He was furious that I helped pass a bill to overturn another overreaching CARB mandate that will raise gas prices even higher while doing nothing for air quality.
These outbursts are nothing new. Newsom did the same thing after we overturned his gas car ban. He did the same when we cut off his High-Speed Rail funds. In both cases he attacked me and loudly filed lawsuits. He’s already withdrawn the latter, acknowledging its frivolousness.
Speaking of High-Speed Rail, we also learned this week that the Rail Authority violated state law by paying for its consultants to go to a cigar bar, a tiki bar, and a nightclub, among other luxury expenses. As if we needed another reason to end this disastrous project.
We also passed legislation this week targeting the fraud Newsom has allowed to flourish. The bill prevents him from hiding evidence of fraud from investigators. In my Floor Speech, I referenced ten different kinds of fraud Newsom has allowed.
I also appeared on CNN to urge passage of my Safe AI bill to advance AI safety and alignment research; I signed a letter to the Interior Secretary to protect Yosemite; and an important education bill I sponsored, promoting the science of reading, passed the House unanimously.
Finally, Richard Pan’s latest tactic for avoiding a TV debate is to disparage our local media, calling into question the ability of KCRA, ABC 10, and Fox40 to host "honest debates." There has never been a candidate more desperate to hide his record.
