There’s once again a lot of chatter about the Democrats replacing Biden. The problem is their backup option, Gavin Newsom, completely flamed out once people got a glimpse of what he’s done to our state.
The latest example: we’ve gone from a $98 billion “surplus” to a $73 billion deficit, while enduring the nation’s highest taxes. To escape his own mess, Newsom is now jetting off to the Vatican to talk “climate.”
Incredibly, Newsom is standing by his plan to expand Medi-Cal to all undocumented immigrants, saying this is “who we are as a state and should be as a nation.” My reply was picked up by Fox News:
“Having our taxpayers fund free healthcare for everyone here illegally, amidst an unprecedented budget deficit and border crisis – while cutting support for foster kids and other vulnerable groups – is not who we should be as a state or country.“
For Newsom, there is no bottom. A proposition has qualified for the ballot that will subject any tax increase to a vote of the people. That’s great news, so naturally, Newsom sued to take it off the ballot. It now appears his gambit will be rejected by the State Supreme Court.
Newsom, through a crony, also tried to stop the End Prop. 47 initiative with a frivolous complaint against me. That complaint has been dismissed (read the rejection letter here); more importantly, he failed to block the initiative.
Over 910,000 signatures were submitted, and with counting underway, the Secretary of State reports an 81.4% validity rate so far. Only a 60% rate is needed, meaning the initiative is easily on track to qualify for November’s ballot.
Finally, this week on the Judiciary Committee we’re voting to hold Merrick Garland in contempt for defying a congressional subpoena. From his targeting of parents to his prosecutorial misadventures, Garland has tarnished the Office of Attorney General.
