As the opposition in California, our task is not just to stop our state’s decline but to warn the rest of the country against the looming effort to nationalize its disastrous policies. This week, we successfully did that.

The head of Gavin Newsom’s Board of Education is in charge of education for Biden and is trying to nationalize Newsom’s war on school choice. That’s why his two leading candidates for Secretary of Education were union bosses.

I wrote a letter opposing both candidates for the cabinet post, joined by my fellow GOP Legislators. Politico immediately published a story headlined “California Republicans Warn Biden Against Nominating ‘Openly Hostile’ Teachers Union Bosses.” The article reports:

Republican lawmakers in California told President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday that he is ‘sure to trigger a confirmation battle in the Senate’ if he nominates a teachers union leader as Education secretary.”

“Assemblymember Kevin Kiley, vice chair of the California Assembly Education Committee, said anti-charter and anti-choice policies ‘have been an absolute disaster for kids in our poorest and most underserved communities.’

Our strategy worked. Apparently fearing a confirmation fight, yesterday Biden announced a different nominee who’s much less in the Newsom mold. Press reports suggest

Meanwhile, yesterday Newsom announced an appointment of his own, naming our state’s top elections official to the U.S. Senate without an election. His decision to elevate a politician who just illegally gave $35 million to a partisan firm shows once again that corruption is the way to climb the political ladder in California.

Newsom has already appointed a new Secretary of State to replace Alex Padilla, and plans to name a new Attorney General soon, making the Executive Branch more like a cabinet. If the Recall succeeds – and it’s looking better every day – these appointees should all resign.

I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and wonderful holiday season.
