Governor Newsom and his ousted Public Health Director must appear before the Legislature to answer for their disastrous bungling of California’s COVID case data.
Here is my official request that the Speaker of the Assembly summon them and other Administration officials as part of an investigation and oversight hearing. See the video from FOX40 at the bottom.
In a functional Legislature, there wouldn’t be any question about an investigation. It would just happen.
California’s Health and Human Services Director, Mark Ghaly, has said: “We’re sorry. You deserve better.” And the Public Health Director has resigned.
Yet Gov. Newsom himself has not offered an apology or anything resembling a coherent explanation for botching the COVID case data that he is using to play God with the lives of 40 million Californians.
Worse, the LA Times reports that Newsom continued citing erroneous COVID data after his Administration knew about the glitch. He then disappeared from public view for a week after it was exposed.
When the Governor finally emerged from hiding on Monday, it was the worst display of obfuscation and accountability dodging I’ve ever seen. He repeatedly refused to explain Dr. Angell’s resignation, calling it a “personnel matter.”
That would be an acceptable answer for an employee of his winery, but not for the Director of the California Department of Public Health.
For months, Californians have been told to put their lives on hold in deference to “data.” Now we learn that because of the Administration’s negligence, the data was wrong.
If the Legislature can’t be bothered to investigate, we truly have become a one-man autocratic government.
