Last week, Newsom summoned the State Legislature to an “emergency” Special Session for the purpose of “Trump-proofing” California. The maneuver was a total farce: they gaveled in for an hour, did nothing, then adjourned for the next month. It was also likely illegal.
Yet with Newsom sanctimoniously vowing to “protect California values,” I couldn’t let the moment pass without enumerating some of the values he apparently intends to protect. In a Floor Speech, I listed 25 areas where California “leads” the nation in exactly the wrong way.
You can see the full list here. As a Forbes headline put it: “Gavin Newsom Gets Absolutely Roasted By Kevin Kiley For Attempt To ‘Trump-Proof’ California.” The reality, of course, is that Californians have made it very clear that Newsom’s “values” are the furthest thing from our own.
For instance, as of last week Newsom protégé George Gascón is no longer DA of Los Angeles, losing in a landslide. The reckless DAs of Oakland and SF have also been recalled from office. And Prop. 47 was decisively reversed through Prop. 36, over Newsom’s strident opposition.
Meanwhile, DOGE has turned its attention to what may be the single most wasteful project in U.S. history: California’s “High-Speed” Rail. The Sac Bee actually got the headline right: “Rep. Kevin Kiley leads the charge to de-fund high-speed rail.” You can see my Floor Speech here.
I’ve also just introduced the New Space Age Act, to remove the FAA’s jurisdiction to block rocket launches. And plans for January are coming into focus. For instance, there are currently 500 Sanctuary Cities and States nationwide. Our goal is to reduce that number to zero.
