As I left DC last week, I did a national interview with Fox about California’s election results. My message: it was sweeping repudiation of Gavin Newsom. His delusions of “Trump-proofing” California have run up against an electorate that would much rather Newsom-proof our state.
Exhibit A, of course, is Prop. 36, which passed overwhelmingly in every single county. Last week, from the House Floor, I made a public service announcement to California criminals: crime is now illegal again. The initiative takes effect in about a month.
The reason it’s not sooner is that California is still counting votes. That’s right: President Trump has selected his whole Cabinet before California has finished processing ballots. I’m working on legislation to require California (and all other states) to report election results in a timely manner.
I also just announced another major piece of legislation: the New Space Age Act. This will remove the FAA’s jurisdiction to hold up launches, as they tried to do with SpaceX’s already legendary rocket “catch.” You can see my Floor Speech about the bill here.
Meanwhile, LA just passed a “Sanctuary City” ordinance to interfere with immigration enforcement. This comes after the Mayor begged Congress for “additional funding” to deal with “challenges brought by new border arrivals.” In January, we will ban sanctuary cities nationwide.
Indeed, the first 100 days will be among the most consequential in American history. The House can move quickly to re-pass bills that were killed by Biden and the Senate, such as the Lower Energy Costs Act, the Parents Bill of Rights, and the Secure the Border Act.
We can also use the Congressional Review Act to fast-track the reversal of many harmful Biden Administration regulations. We will use every tool at our disposal to ignite economic growth and launch a new era of American prosperity.
