My prayers are with everyone affected by the horrifying fires in LA and the incredible first responders working to control them. This scale of the damage is beyond belief; I’ve made it clear that our focus must be 100 percent on doing everything possible to end this nightmare.

That’s why it’s so appalling that even as the fires continue to threaten life and property, the Legislature held a Special Session called by Newsom to “Trump-proof” California. They decided this was the time to designate $50 million to sue the Administration before it even begins.

I gave a Floor Speech condemning Newsom and the Legislature for their insanely backwards priorities. I then outlined how this disaster is the culmination of years of failed policies and abysmal political leadership. You can watch the full speech here

I also met this weekend with President Trump, who understands how California’s absurd water and fire policies contributed to the LA tragedy. In this and many other ways – the sanctuary state, high-speed rail, homelessness – we will work together to Newsom-proof California.

Speaking of Newsom, this week his behavior has reached a new level of repugnance. In the midst of unimaginable suffering, he is spending his time attacking Elon Musk, setting up a new website to deflect blame, and scapegoating anyone and everyone other than himself.

California was already on the cusp of major political change. We saw hints of this in the last election. The shocking images the world is now seeing are going to supercharge that change. Our citizens have had enough of a catastrophically broken government.
