After weeks of refusals and stonewalling, our opponent Richard Pan has agreed to a debate. It will be hosted by The Sacramento Bee on August 17. 

Pan’s plan was to hide from voters through November. But our campaign’s momentum has forced him to cave. 13,000 people have now signed the Parents Against Pan petition to stop the most anti-parent legislator in America from taking his radical agenda to Congress. 

Meanwhile, I’ve formally asked the Department of Health and Human Services to block Newsom's new healthcare tax. California voters expressly prohibited him from imposing such a tax, which will increase premiums by up to $400. But he defied the voters and did it anyway.

Several Members from California have joined my request (read it here; see Fox’s coverage here). I also took to the House Floor to blast Newsom for this double blow to democracy and affordability, noting he’s already increased the budget by $150 billion yet is still raising taxes.

Speaking of defying voters, I joined CBS to discuss the distortion of the Voter ID initiative's ballot description. This is the latest example of slanted language being used to skew the outcome. It’s why I’ve proposed removing the Attorney General's power to write ballot language.

Meanwhile, because of our success passing the biggest school choice program in U.S. history last year, 5.9 million California students are eligible for scholarships to use as their families choose, at no cost to the state. Yet Newsom is denying all of them access to these funds. 

I joined the Brookings Institute podcast and called on the Legislature to reverse Newsom, while discussing his failed education policies. And elsewhere, I helped secure funding for important California water projects a legislation passed through the Infrastructure Committee.

All of this comes as we are less than 100 days until the Election Day. This is a fight for California’s future – and it’s one we must win.
