Newsom saw that fraud ended Tim Walz’s career in Minnesota and wanted to avoid the same fate. But rather than target the actual fraudsters, he’s going after those exposing the fraud. His allies have a new bill in the Legislature threatening citizen journalists with criminal penalties. 

Some believe this is aimed at Nick Shirley – you’ll recall my viral hearing clip with Shirley about Newsom – and it is certainly an assault on the 1st Amendment. But we won't let it stop us from rooting out the rampant fraud in California; we now have over a dozen investigations/probes.

Newsom, meanwhile, just cost our taxpayers $4.5 million by ignoring my advice. I warned him that requiring schools to keep secrets from parents about the name/gender used by their child violated federal law. Sure enough, Newsom lost in court and was ordered to pay attorney fees.

And his Coastal Commission has perpetrated a fresh absurdity: they've decreed there will be no fireworks in Long Beach on the Fourth of July, canceling the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. I’ve introduced a bill to strip the Commission of its powers under federal law.

But in good news, PRI has a report on the success of our bill, the No Aid for Ghost Students Act. One-third of community college applications in California were fake: 1.2 million in 2024 alone. Fraudsters pocket up to $7,400 in aid for "living expenses" each time. But not anymore.

I also officially introduced the Gas Tax Reduction Act to stop states like California from overtaxing their residents; went on MSNBC to call on California lawmakers to suspend the gas tax in its entirety; and had a discussion with RFK Jr. about the new Food Pyramid.

Finally, through a bill I introduced that was signed by the President, we've officially renamed what is now the Louis A. Conter VA Clinic. Lou was the last living survivor of Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Arizona and saved many shipmates on that fateful day. He is truly an American hero.
