During the Newsom/DeSantis debate, which I fact-checked live, Newsom’s Chief of Staff Dana Williamson took to Twitter to call me an “idiot.” Oddly, her account disappeared the next morning. Two years later, she’s been arrested for 23 felonies in a federal corruption scheme.
Following this bombshell on Wednesday, Newsom – who I’ve called “America’s Most Corrupt Governor” – tried to blame Trump. Problem is, the investigation started during the Biden Administration, while Ms. Williamson was still serving as Newsom’s top staffer.
Meanwhile, the government shutdown is finally over. I kept working in DC to end it in every way possible. Five days before it ended, I appeared live from Reagan Airport on CNN to highlight the toll it was taking on air traffic controllers and the growing chaos for air travelers.
Elsewhere, the U.S. Department of Justice is suing to block Newsom's Prop. 50 map. This is appropriate, as Newsom didn’t go through the process of assuring compliance with the U.S. Constitution. Still, we can’t count on this; we must be prepared to win under the new map.
As to my place on that map, I’m truly grateful for all the kind and thoughtful responses. I’ve read each one, and look forward to talking more in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile, I’m introducing a bill to end gerrymandering for good in California and across the country.
Newsom, incidentally, spiked the Prop. 50 football by calling us “losers.” So I had to point out that he led the opposition to Prop. 36 (Make Crime Illegal Again) and lost in landslide; we beat him by a much wider margin than Prop. 50 or any other ballot measure in recent years.
As I said on Fox News, our movement for sanity in California won't be stopped by Newsom's gerrymander. Just like it wasn't stopped by his own staff member running against me last year. That’s because in contrast to Newsom's rabid partisanship, we're fighting for all Californians.
